Fox-IT was concluded by the National Agency Communications Security to Low Security changes in OpenVPN, an open-source VPN product that makes the software suitable for the use of public employees. This development ensures that the Dutch government employees can securely access work files outside their office.

OpenVPN, a leading provider of open source VPN that is made to fit the reduced state. The Netherlands National Communications Security Agency (NBV), the Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD), has confirmed. Approval applies to a particular version of OpenVPN-NL, which is distributed through a secure channel, and that improves the security changes have been applied. These changes have been made at Fox-IT, which is also responsible for the secure hosting. OpenVPN NL thus contributing to a safer work from home within the government.
Swiss Army Knife
OpenVPN is a versatile open source VPN product that has existed for nearly a decade. Its flexibility and applications is enormous. So it is hardly surprising that the Dutch government has chosen to OpenVPN. Since there is no cost to acquire it, it fits as well in the current economic climate. Choose OpenVPN also fits well with the Dutch government's strategy to promote the use of open source software (Noiva).
Good choice
"I'm glad that OpenVPN has been approved," says van der Plaat TEUs, the commander of research and innovation, as well IVENT, the IT Department of Defense. "Memory Stick, safe solution to working from home, have already been used during the pilot project OpenVPN. So it is clear that we have made a good choice, and we are now able to use OpenVPN in production."

Fox-IT chose the version 2.1.4 OpenVPN on that basis. Components have been removed that could adversely affect the level of security. If necessary, other components are changed, improved and documented. This is called a modified version of OpenVPN OpenVPN NL. PolarSSL cipher chosen, given the small size and modular design. This also made it easier to evaluate.
The Netherlands National Communications Security Agency (NBV) is subjected OpenVPN OpenVPN NL NL assess whether it is likely that to ensure the data reduction. This evaluation was carried out successfully.
